I am a speaker and writer serving generous-hearted Christians as we re-imagine the church as a beloved community of hospitality and reconciliation, so that all people experience God’s embrace.
I am also the Lead Minister at The Vine Church in Temple, TX. As Lead Minister, I oversee the teaching and preaching ministries, lead the ministerial staff and coordinate the vision and mission of the church.
Previously, I served as President of the Board of Directors for The Peninsula Clergy Network, an interactive network of all clergy in San Mateo and Northern Santa Clara Counties designed to build knowledge, understanding and working relationships between religious and civic leaders. I chose Abilene Christian University for both my undergraduate (B.A. Youth & Family Ministry) and graduate (M.Div) education. Prior to living in Temple, I served as Senior Minister at Redwood Church in Redwood City, CA, Associate Minister at Bering Drive church of Christ, Houston, TX, and Youth and Family Minister at Harvey Drive church of Christ, McAllen, TX.
In 2013, I was humbled to be profiled in Christian Standard Magazine’s “4o Leaders Under 4o” Edition.
I’m honored to speak and teach for various audiences around the country. My first book, “Unarmed Empire” is set to release in Spring 2017. I’m also a contributing writer for The Voice Bible Project, a Bible translation project through the Ecclesia Bible Society; author of “Scandalous: Lessons in Redemption From Unlikely Women.”; and a contributing writer to Agenda Music: A Conversation on Faith and Art with Derek Webb, Seth Tower Hurd & Friends. My writing has also been featured on Scot McKnight’s Jesus Creed, Sojourners, FoxNews.com, and Christianity Today’s Out of Ur.
As an advocate for the community and the church, I have been a past member of the Board of Directors of Spaulding for Children, a not-for-profit adoption agency in Houston, TX, where I served as Chair for Faith-Based Outreach, leader of Emergent Village’s EmergentHouston Cohort and a member of the Abilene Christian University Alumni Advisory Board. I’m married to the wonderful and beautiful Rochelle Stripling Palmer, a social worker and we have two great kids.
